On a mailing list I got today was a referance to an ongoing 'argument' on a usenet newsgroup called 'NCC-1701-D vs Star Destroyer' - it's basically a good humored banter about what would win in a scrap - a Star Destroyer from Star Wars or the Enterprise from Star Trek.

This is a post from a guy who's invented his own ship to have them both - and it's funny:

Quote
I've come up with a ship that can defeat both a star destroyer and the Enterprise.  I call it the Galaxy Smasher.  The specs are shown below:

Size: 10 parsecs by 2 parsecs (it uses shuttle craft as turbolifts)

Weapons: 1e9 Nuclear Cannons with a range of 1e6 parsecs.  Each burst is 10 TeraJoules.
5e6 Gravity Bombs.  It fires planet-size masses of lead at speeds approaching the speed of light.
900 Solar Flare Guns. It shoots solar flares (duh) across the galaxy.

Shields: Capable of dispersing a google Joules per nanosecond.  Very little recharge time. (For those of you who need numbers its on the order of 1 femtosecond)

Power Source: It houses are main sequence G class star in its hull.  When (after 10 billion years) it's ready to go supernova, it is ejected and the Galaxy Smasher just swallows up a new star.

Speed:   Infinity.  It can rip holes in space-time and go anywhere.

Crew:    1e9 disembodied (formerly) geneticly altered telepathic superhumans.
In the event of a hull breach they are unaffected and operation continues as normal.

Computers: A massively paralleled, redundant, machine. Contains neural nets (I know that impresses you star trek people) which are interfaced with the disembodied crew.  The interconnections across the ship also rip through the puny time and space boundaries so that some signals arive to parts of the ship before they even originate.  This way if the ship blows up, it can send signals backward through time and take action to prevent the ship from blowing up. It's indestructable!!!

So that's it.  This could kick everyone's ass.  Go ahead and try to argue it.

I got it all out of my own technical manual.
