As far as quality old-school calls go ACDC (Back In Black) and G&R are both good calls - as are old Aerosmith, Metallica and Black Sabath (you have just got to love Ozzy) IMHO.
Lots of good new stuff around as well - Puddle Of Mud, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, A Perfect Circle and Limp Bizkit (sometimes) are a couple I like.

As im not a big fan of 'Metal' it would be unfair for me to force my opinions onto you. Therefore I will.

Here's what I reckon:

Mightiest riffs = Led Zep (not strictly metal but class)/Sabbaff

Biggest hair/Tightest spandex = Poison/Whitesnake

Inventor of most rock n roll hedonistic cliches = Ozzy

Scariest gay biker type leather clad singer = bloke from Judas Priest

Best rock/rap crossover = Rage against the machines 1st album (shit on Limp wristbiscuit from a great height)

Most theatrical, over the top, camped up bunch of englishmen with a funny name = Cradle of Filth

Biggest Cheese = Scorpions/Europe/Def Leppard/Bon Jovi/Kiss/Man o war/Poison/WASP/Iron Maiden/Van Halen/Whitesnake etc

Best use of modern make up techniques = Spineshank (good name too)

Current biggest tosser = Marylin Manson

Biggest guitar twiddlers (solo wankfests) = Steve Vai/Satch

Anyone who disagrees with these choices is obviously wrong.

If anyone else would like their record collection publicly slagged, just send a list to me, your local obnoxious music reviewer. †

I think it's Rob Halford who's lead singer with Judas Priest (he admited he was gay a few years ago)

Nearly as big a shock as when George Michael, Steven Gately and Will Young 'came out'.

Im pretty sure he went on to front another band called, wait for it, 'Halford'. Probably influenced by the bike shop.
I think Judas Priests replacement singer was a lifetime fan and the whole sorry story was made into a film starring another rock God, Mark 'Marky Mark' Wahlburg.

If im wrong about this it will come as some relief cos i seem to know too much about too many dodgy rock bands. †

Ooh he's got a point you know :(
Not so sure about Panetera (Vulgar Display of Power was good though) nor Megadeth - I don't think anyone could ever take Dave Mustaine's hair seriously...

Oh yeah - beneath the poodle head he wears he can riff with the best of them - and the lead (Marty Friedman?) sure can play.

Following on from our slagging of Judas Priest, I found this on Popbitch:

Quote
Bigtone writes:
† "Around 1993 I got an invite to PWL studios, where
† Pete Waterman played us some unreleased stuff.
† The most notable was an unreleased track by Judas Priest
† that they had produced. I can't remember the title,
† but it was actually pretty good!"

† It turns out that Stock Aitken and Waterman made
† several tracks for Judas Priest. There were two
† SAW compositions - I Will Return and You Keep
† Giving Me The Runaround, plus - bizarrely - a
† cover of the Diana Ross/Marvin Gaye classic You
† Are Everything. †

† Anyone got a copy of the disco Judas Priest tracks?
