That's funny because I found it boring, uninformed and hackneyed.
Sorry Paul mate, not a dig at you at all, I appreciate as much as the next man you taking the time out to give us relevant sources of info without us having to search, but I am just so underwhelmed by the incessant M$ bashing that goes on. I mean really... what is earth shattering in the report? That Vista wont be as secure as some obscure, almost unusable systems that are developed, maintained and used almost exclusively by the same people that try to hack M$ products anyway? I mean if people put the time and effort they do into cracking Windows products but into QSX or AS/400 or something then I'm sure they'd take it down in minutes. The source code is available to the world FFS. I know as British folks we always fight for the underdog, but it's pathetic that people always pick on M$. They make quite brilliant products (albeit often backed up by flimsy ideology) that make the world function better. I understand Windows more than 99.5% of users and I can say it is a good product, and I'm sure Vista will be too. I can sit here all day and pick holes in Apple, Linux, AS/400 Unix etc but who can really be bothered? If there were a worthy challenger then maybe that could be a good battle. For the record Mr. Ward, M$ bashing is old and boring and it doesn't make you sound any smarter at all. -------------------- |

hahaha...
I agree with Matt's sentiment, although I'm possibly not quite as passionate about it. I had to laugh at one of the first publicly announced bugs in vista. Apparently, your computer can talk to itself. Therefore, your computer can tell itself to delete files. How do people come up with this stuff? Yes, it's a rather lightweight piece of journalism, but that doesn't make some of the content any less relevant. Apparently Bill Gates has claimed that Vista is "dramatically more secure than any other operating system released", and this is a dangerous claim to make - let's just see what happens.

M$ going full out to earn that dollar sign in the common abbreviation of their name:
QUOTE Microsoft has released a new EULA (End User License Agreement) that states that only certain versions of Vista ñ Business and Ultimate (and Enterprise for corporate customers) are eligible to be run in a virtual machine. The EULA says that Home Basic and Home Premium CANNOT be run in a virtual machine. (from parallelsvirtualization.blogspot.com/2007/01/vista-is-here-so-what-does-it-mean-for.html) Here's the tecnical legalese from the EULAs: For Vista Home Basic and Home Premium Editions: ìUSE WITH VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGIES. You may not use the software installed on the licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system.î For Vista Enterprise and Ultimate Editions: ìUSE WITH VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGIES. You may use the software installed on the licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system on the licensed device. If you do so, you may not play or access content or use applications protected by any Microsoft digital, information or enterprise rights management technology or other Microsoft rights management services or use BitLocker. We advise against playing or accessing content or using applications protected by other digital, information or enterprise rights management technology or other rights management services or using full volume disk drive encryption.î In short, this means that if youíre a user and you want to run Vista virtually, you MUST buy the highest end versions of Vista, or youíll be in violation of the Microsoft EULA. Here are the price points for each version: Home Basic $199 Home Premium $239 Business $299 Ultimate $399 -------------------- "We are number one, all others are number two or lower!" - The Sphinx, Mystery Men

<---This is actually Paul
I love this: Play.com The top bar. Upgrade your memory for Vista!!!! Monitors for Vista!!!!! ITS AN OPERATING SYSYEM. Nothing more notheing less. Why would there be 'Vista reccomended' anything. Sub note - I know nothing about Vista, I don't want to know anything about Vista. Its an operating system that lets me do other stuff with my pc which I do know a little about. Sub sub note. I got the above advert in an email from Play telling me to buy Vista at great savings of from £99 (upgrade disk). Vista will make protected digital content all fuzzy unless it is viewed on high bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) compatible monitor.
The memory thing is about dual channel DDR2, Vista works with normal DDR but is optimized for Dual channel also Vista supports ReadyBoost cache which is an additional type of flash memory to make booting the behemoth software faster. There are loads of other non essential hardware options that fully optimize Vista, not sure if this is PC hardware final being optimized to its limit or its just catching up with other system in one big leap? Warning: I think MS have written a self destruct into XP so that is sends your processor up in smoke if you change anything on your PC now Vista is launched! I moved my PC internals from one case to another and when I switched it on smoke came out of the CPU. I thought ok not that major as I will just get a new CPU, oh how wrong I was!!! The CPU is not made or available anywhere and the motherboard doesnt support any of the new ones. Thought BUGGER but still I just need to replace the M/B but NO, they dont do AGP anymore! So now I have to get a new CPU, M/B, Graphics card. Crud ok now I find my DDR is of the really slow type and is not compatible with the new M/B either! Also it seems that the new M/B only have 1 or 2 PCI slots which means I can not install all my card unless I replace some of them. So what should have been a £25-£40 fix now turns in to a £300 fix! All of your woes can be simply solved by binning ALL of your existing hardware and popping in to my store and buying nice shiny new kit. You may, however, be forced to make a Shogun-Assassin style ball-or-blade decision between Vista, or your Video iPod as the two are currently incompatible. Arse.

Steve Jobs (worth) who is the man behind the iPod etc says they want to remove all the copy protect from iTunes music but they are being forced to use it by the Big media companies. They are putting pressure on these companies to allow it to be removed.
