Campaign Cup..., ....a ringers opinion.... Options

Right, CC is getting slated on P8 at the moment for just about everything!! I know a lot of Ringers worked at the event and most of us have a lot of experience in the set up, staffing and running of a major tournament. Between us we have vendors, spectators, refs, players and staff.

I think it would be nice to get honest opinions from all of us about the event, but in order to make your post credible, we are going to adopt the "shit sandwich" approach. Basically, if you can only post negative points and no positives obviously you were not paying attention!

We all know how much work goes into every aspect of setting up an international event and no one wants to discredit the effort made by any of the campaign staff. With that in mind, I would ask the moderators to keep an eye on this thread and delete any posts that are inappropriate.

I'll set the ball rolling then....

POSITIVE:
An excellent choice of vendors in the trade village, all offering good deals.
From a players point of view, the location of facilities and fields in relation to the players area was good.

NEGATIVE:
The event was again let down by the lack of security for equipment. Secure players areas and parking areas for players need to be provided.
For the first time in about seven years, i went to CC to spectate. I would have seen more of the event if i had stayed at home and asked tango to text me random photos all day....

As i have already said, this is not a mud slinging match, it's about constructive comments that hopefully the organisers are big enough to take on board and be congratulated on what they did well, and at the same time reflect on what could be done better next year.

It was the Campaign Cup in every way, shape and form.

Experience shows that the venue just doesnt work for a major International pb event.

Having said that, the event was probably as good as you could get it in that location.


If they are to hold a UK leg next season, I will be recommending that they hold the UK leg in the Spring and not as the last event of the season.

It is the most expensive event of the year and is held when everyone has pretty much run out of cash.

Sales were poor
Weather was English and the food was awful.

For those that were playing, I think they got everything that they paid their money for.

POSITIVE-i went on the sunday final and it was all well and good i had saved my money for this event and there were big choices and good deals. food was alright.

NEGATIVE-limited food- vegatarian option , healthy option, maybe more signs showing were the entrance to the place is from the carpark, went up to bridge part then down and to some swimming pool place b4 being told by a peep in orange the entrance.

[Paintball Widow]

POSITIVE:
- Great to see all the old crew
- XL Turf. looks great. (but all fields, even M5 should be XL Turf)
- Cool field designs, great to see things being thought of outside the box
- much closer together, no big 15 min treks to the fields.
- nice that there was enough seating for everyone (perhaps too much seating :) haha)
- Great to see outside sponsors getting their feet wet, I suspect that Corona and some new companies will be involved for the season next year.
- Top 3 CPL teams were DraXxus teams.
- good selection of trade. Great sales at Dye! Missed seeing a sullen Piper in his stand though.
- Admin seemed to move very quickly, heard that from a lot of people. They've got that worked out. Good job!
- M5 seemed to go over well, lots of people like the idea and format. I didn't get to watch any personally though
- Those chips at the Fish and Chips wagon!



NEGATIVES:
- Barry Fuggle's MP3 player - only so much country music one can stand during a paintball event.
- The Queen's. 'nuff said.
- Couldn't get to the other fields without a players pass. I'm glad the staff for the most part knew who I was or I'd had to have said 'Do you know who I am?' (hahahaha kidding)
- I prefer 'enclosed' fields as a preference. Visually the fields didn't seem 'finished'
- No Campaign Cup tshirts or other souvenirs
- No extra schedules for spectators available.
- Parking charge in the car park for spectators (if this was known before should have been posted)
- Glad there was a players party, but not everyone knows English clubs are smart casual (no sneakers) none of the Montreal guys had dress shoes and therefore couldn't go - this should have been posted.
- Refs in Yellow (the final was Tontons, Joy and with the refs - I didn't know where to look)
- No signage (or small signage) - hard to find by car and Crystal Palace does not show up on Euro Sat Nav.
- VIP area. We went for the free beer, not because it was VIP. needed a little upmff or something, perhaps one of the Corona girls serving, different music, scoreboard feeds, snacks. . . .




Personal Negatives:
The Trade Stand: I can't say anything more. I know my company has a little work to do in that area.

Besides the usual punk ass shoplifters, I don't think the Trade was hit the same as in the past for theiving. . . .I haven't heard of any teams or players that had their equipment nicked from the players area. I did hear that pretty much ALL cars that got done in the parking lot had SatNav or something similar ON SHOW, so in my opinion, serves them right.

Colin's team brought bike locks and padlocks for their equipment when not in the players area. for a grand total of $15 CAD they protected their equipment. Stealing is just part of the English landscape now, a little preperation makes sure you aren't victim.

Cc set up in 4 days - well done to all concerned
Rebuilt On Sat night :- even more thanks to all involved with a special to Jamie [ bird-woman] Bird for climbing all over the stadium roof [and with a sexy french man]
Down and packed in 3 days including the dyeing of the ponds orange at no extra cost - again thanks to the campaign crew - oh yeah and the others.
Meeting all the old faces and some new ones also

neg- rebuilding 4 fields on sat night
Too many " do you know who I am" [joey excluded cos we all do!!!!] trying to get where their not supposed to be.
Well done all on gate/ door jobs including the mobil barn [yes Otis i mean You]

CC needs a really big field so all can see all they wish, Trade stands that can stand out and 200 + hotels [most of which must be in the middle of the site and free ] to please all- all I can think of is a field near heathrow or gatwick - still sort of in london but who am I to comment
Still I had a great time - saw some peeps and some games though don't ask me to work another just yet as the answer may just burn your ears

Hey, I was only there for the Sunday of the actuall event but did do setup and packdown.

positives: CPL field, on the fake turf, even tho a bitch to lay seemed to be a brilliant surface to play on, and was fun to watch from the stands, problem was couldn't see any of the other fields.
I managed to sneak down to the floor for abt 45mins till someone asked who i was, unlike some pple i cant say ''do u know who i am?'' because, well it wont work :).

There was access to all the game fields at CC 03 which was handy for watching but i understand did cause some security and safety problems.

Maybe in a new london based venue there could be more space for audiences to view all the games. Then spectateing would be much more fun, possibly drawing more crowds, especially people who arent actually ballers. Maybe charts telling the crowd whose playing at what times etc wld be good.

More local advertising would have been good also, i saw that the 05 CC had loads of advertising outside the site, this year i saw one arrow sign outside the stadium saying paintball championships which someone had turned to point the other way. lol.

It was great to see non paintball sponsors like Corona, hopefully this will continue.

Big up to the guys who worked saturday night, i wish i was there to help.

Overall i think the it was good and the setup and packdown wasnt as hecktic as ive herd about in the past.

Didn't know he was your type! (I was really proud to now be part of the 'netting team' )

I loved being at the Cup, same as every year - exhausting, no sleep etc etc.
It's completely different spectating to playing, so I don't want to make any judgements.

I have seen the comments on P8 and they are the same for every tourney in every country so nothing changes. I was however gutted with the people who stupidly left stuff in their car to get nicked and then blame the tournament.

Just s little bit of info for you all though, even though this was the biggest paintball event in the country and there has been a significant rise in thefts of equipment from events, no one thought it would be a good idea to let the local "filth" know about the event or any possible rise in crime implications.........

Possibly someone dropped the ball there methinks......
