Well, after several months of indecision and financial juggling, I am finally the proud owner of an Eclipse Ego. Thanks to Sam for sorting me out and cheers to Rocket for being kind enough to deliver it.

I took her out with me last Sunday for team training and was instantly impressed with the speed. What I wasn't expecting was the weight, or subsequent lack of. It's such an easy marker to move with. Snap-shooting with either hand is now just a breeze and I found myself wanting to move upfield a lot more and get stuck in. Previously, I would be happy to play a Back-Mid position and rely on the long-range accuracy of my Cocker to do the talking. On the subject of accuracy, I was initially disappointed with the long-range trajectory of the Ego and I put it down to being spoilt with the years of Evo and Eblade use. I corrected this by tilting the gun up slightly on our break-out drills. All-in-all I had a great day with it and finished on a high by charging into the snake, crawling up and mugging two of our PA-league players.
The following Sunday (yesterday), we played the fourth leg of the Natwest South West league in Bristol. The morning was a disaster as our strategy of three-runners/four-shooters got us cut to ribbons and only gave us one win. Lunch gave us a time to reflect and a kind-hearted bollocking from the powers-that-be. We went out with five guns up and were a totally different team. The Ego had no problems picking out players sprinting to their back positions and those that did make it were kept in and couldn't return fire. With no real support from their back players we were able to control and eliminate the other teams fairly quickly. We won three out of our four afternoon games. I got four players on Team Recoil by snapshooting one with my left hand, quickly switching back to my right and cutting down another as he ran for the snake, diving into the snake myself, crawling up and then drilling the other two from the mid and their back corner. There must have been about seventy people watching and cheering me on. blush.gif
Our final game of the day against Halloween was another Ego-inspired success. We took two of them off the break and powered up to the mid-field. Too many hours spent playing Greg Hastings and watching Derder videos had me charging up to the centre complex, shooting out the back centre player and diving over the barricade to mug whoever was on the other side. I leapt, and missed all five bunkers. I landed between three of them and got stuck in a tangle of elasticated cable and tent pegs. A frantic half-minute of wriggling and jostling ensued as I untangled myself like some crazed escape artist. I successfully freed myself without getting shot and just wanted to leap up and say 'ta-daaa!'. There was still a game going on but not for much longer. Despite crashing in the 'X' and getting lost in it, I capped my mirror square on the head. The snake was purged during my struggle and that left one player in the mid-left who I shot out as from the complex.
I know guns don't win games. I know I've been training and playing a lot more recently. However, I will say the Ego has made a noticeable differenace to the way I play and the way my team plays. It's my marker of choice for my tourny games from now on, but I'll still be using my Eblade for walk-ons and Big Games where that 'special' Cocker trajectory comes in useful.

Glad you are getting on well with the Ego - I take it no regrets about not going with the Proto?

...mike your first gaming experiences with the Ego...making "...a noticeable difference to the way I play..."sounds very familiar...I went through the very same thing with the Alias...just remember to be wary of the 'invincibility' mode...enjoy, learn, improve and kill kill kill...it worked for me... devil.gif

I'm still hankering over a Proto, simply because I just love the way they work and have always wanted a marker from the Dye/Proto stable. The prices are attractive at the moment and they're available in my favourite colour scheme. For now, I'll hold on for a few months and sell some more crap on Ebay. I'm also thinking of selling some stuff on Markermart. Like Polo's Shocker... devil.gif
