I just bought an Airgun Designs 6Pak on t'internet in the original box with all the bits, instructions etc. If anyone knows what the hell I'm on about they'll know why I'm so happy
The instructions are comedy gold; "With today's guns averaging 25 shots per 12 gram preloading seven cartridges gives you (6x25=) 150 shots before reloading. That's about how many shots are used in an average game." How things have changed -------------------- "Think neither of victory nor of yourself, but only of eating a really big pie."

How much did you pay for it? It's the slam changer one right?

James- they originally cost £150 about 14 years ago- I got this one for the asking price of £23 inc P&P. The guy is still trying to reattach his fingers.
The 6Pak is a steel shoulder stock with a slotted steel magazine that holds 6 12g capsules on top of a big spring. Working the lever spits out the old capsule and pierces a new one in a couple of seconds- shit hot until everyone worked out a 7oz tank cost about a quarter of the price and didn't need expensive sparklets either. I shall be slapping it on my Sterling at the woodland just to see their faces. -------------------- "Think neither of victory nor of yourself, but only of eating a really big pie."

Not everything about the game is good now. Some how i recall a more laid back freindly atmosphere with better sites and less twats. but hey change can be good.

Oh shit here we go, a new contender
Sure paintball has evolved; I use an e-cocker that shoots at silly rates and will ramp if I can ever be arsed getting the software, fed by a Reloader B and a 5000psi preset. But I still leave that in the bag sometimes and run a pump, my lovely Sovereign or even an Inferno for several reasons; I was there when all those things were state of the art , I don't always want to rip the shit out of other players and I like the challenge of making eliminations with a clunky old antique. All my guns are hand-built by people I know and trust and I prefer that to the very latest CNC milled mass assembled ubergatizzle no matter who endorses it. If you'd rather drive the latest plastic BMW wankmobile instead of a hand-built original then fair enough, but not everyone shares your taste It's a sad tendency among modern players to be driven by fashion and instantly disparaging of anything that isn't the latest thing. Post on any forum now asking about any gun that isn't an Ego or DM5, what size drop you should use or how to run CO2 on a marker and you'll instantly be drowned by hoards of twats telling you to bin it/get a rail/kill yourself, all of whom are just repeating whatever Dynasty did last month. Last year you were nothing without a Timmy, this year you can't give them away and Dye and Eclipse are laughing on top of a big pile of money. Next year it'll be some other gun and I'll still be shooting very annoyed people with my little pump gun Oh and fuck Ions. Fuck a bunch of Ions. -------------------- "Think neither of victory nor of yourself, but only of eating a really big pie."

Well said, I too am guilty of 'wanting the latest marker' but as doc says just because its 'the latest thing' it certainly does not mean that they are A) Good B) gonna be around for more than five minutes C) Be worth anything in 12 months. It is very much the case that paintball as we know it is disappearing up its own ass thanks to an army of hero worshipping 14 year olds (oh joy) dry firing their markers all day wanking off over their trigger action! You've all seen them. Still we need to keep it real chaps while im very much a child of the old school there are alot of things that im glad have changed quality of paint for one and it is rather satisfying when you get to light up one of the before mentioned dickheads with 15Bps and they do the funky chicken across the field.

Agreed- I tested the G7 t'other month and it was great fun shooting it in mode 3 at 15bps whilst occasionally walking past the trigger But the sad thing is I was more excited about the Pro Classic mag I was testing alongside it which cost £900 less and still shot beautifully. I guess I'm just another dinosaur
The new generation of markers are all amazing machines, but they have no soul as far as I'm concerned having been made by computers and assembled rather than built by a craftsman. -------------------- "Think neither of victory nor of yourself, but only of eating a really big pie."

There certainly seems to be far too much emphasis on whether or not ones paintball kit is colour co-ordinated or exactly how many balls a second ones marker fires. While i am on the subject though, On a SERIOUS NOTE THOUGH I tell you now it will not be long, if things carry on this way till ethier some one is hurt through goggle faliure due to excessive ball strikes or the whole alot will be banned because technically a marker is a air weapon and therefore by definition a fire arm, and being capable of fully automatic fire means that these new markers are technically section 5 (1) (a) weapons grouped with things like tear gas, tazerguns and alike.
I found these quotes relating to this..... "Please note that full-automatic weapons have *never* been legal in the UK" (with the exception of end user certificate holders ie arms dealers). ìWhile only the courts can offer a final ruling, it seems likely that a paintball gun capable of fully automatic or burst fire would count as a prohibited weapon under Section 5(1)(a) of the Firearms Act 1968. The maximum penalty for possessing such an item is ten years imprisonment. A circuit board or chip to allow fully automatic or burst fire would be a component part of such a weaponî. "Further discussions this week and letters exchanged between the UKPSF and the Home Office have confirmed that Section 5(1)(a) prohibits any weapon, which discharges two or more missiles with one operation of the trigger". This carrys with it a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment for use or posession of said items I beleave (dont quote me on that). So is paintball really evolving???? or about to disappear from our shores for good??? you decide. But i feel that these 'ramping boards' and full auto functions are a silly idea and can only go on to cause us all aggro in the long run. I am sure that there are many out there that would beg to differ but I feel that now these markers are actually being advertised as full auto, How long do you think it will be before someone in a decision making position in the government notices??? Come on guys (you know who you are) sort it out before they do it for us. For example this ad http://www.warpedpaintball.co.uk/ion.asp (This is purely an example) This post has been edited by ALCOSHOCK: May 12 2005, 09:09 AM -------------------- SOMETIMES OUTNUMBERED BUT NEVER OUT GUNNED

fair enough.
i guess im a different generation, and never even saw them there sterling thingies. i do think full auto is bad, and illegal and stuff, but its not being used and dont know anyone who does? but personally i think its safer than 15bps rampage. to be honest too, some people might think tournament players are nobs who wanna shoot real fast, but shooting fast is a massive benefit to the game and can be the difference between winning or losing, whatever anyone says. why dyou think nxl teams risk 5min penalties for 20bps (or whatever) breakout mode. thats the most sane post ive ever written. mental. mingers. |

Ok first off i understand that to you this may seem very strange, thats fine I guess its because I have seen alot of change in the game over the last sixteen years (yes sixteen! I can hardly beleve it my self!) as Doc and many of the other "old timers" have too, But the point that I am trying to make is ballin' is still a long way off being taken seriously as a sport, most uneducated people still see it as "a bunch of nobs running around the woods shooting each other with paint thingy's" exactly the opposite to what we all want. Not cool. but that said its is getting somewhere in the states now (finally) so the point I was making about the markers and stuff is, How we going to get anywhere with it over here if the markers are outlawed?? then where will we be? nowhere. Its cool to introduce new technology to the game but it has to be within the laws of the country that it is played. We could take this to the Nth degree but it is really somthing that needs to be sorted, semi auto sould mean semi auto not coz I want to spoil everybodys fun but because its the law! Oh in answer to the "break out mode's" question you raised in my opinion they should'ent be cheating because if everybody starts cheating then there is no game, it just becomes a waste of money. period.
