MSN calls the cops

The MSN television service provided by Microsoft has been adding to the workload of Californian police officers by causing some user's set-top boxes to dial the emergency 911 number instead of the usual dial-up connection.
The glitch is a result of a patch issued by Microsoft for the program, which arrives as an e-mail attachment. When opened, the patch shuts down the computer, changes the dial-up settings and then phones the emergency services. The first users know about it is when the police start banging on their door.
