This story has put me off the game a bit. If I'm being advertised to, I would rather not pay for the privilege. I really don't mind the idea of in-game advertising, but the whole point of this is to make the game cheaper (because it is not just the players paying for the game - the advertisers do).

To also make this compulsory for online play seems to me to reduce user choice.

Currently, it's only available for online download, so there is a massively reduced distribution cost of the game, but they are still charging a whopping £30 for the privilege of you installing their adware.

Not my cup of tea. Personally, I think EA should revise their business model. Either include adware and give the software away, or make the end user pay and remove the adware.

PS. As an ironic side thought, if this is a futuristic game (2142 is 135.25 years away), why are the billboards going to display today's ads?
