Due to some recent un-savoury behavior we have slightly amended the way that new users are handled - new users will be able to post new topics and replies but all their posts will need to be approved by a moderator before 'going live'. The moderators will do our best to see that posts are approved as soon as reasonably possible and new users will be promoted to the 'Full Members' group (without these restrictions) once we are happy that they are not trouble makers!

Hi James,
I have been thinking of a reply for the last week, as I have not wanted to give you bad advise. Untill recently I was running the Team Jolt forums and over the years I have been involved in a number forums type projects. In fact I closed down the Jolt forums earlier this year as first we were not really using it much any more and second I was having to spend more and more time administering the forums as forum spammers were hitting it hard. The best advise I can give is to appoint a number of forum moderators who can help you keep the forums running ok, a problem shared. Find trusted members of the community and give them the power to clean the forums up for you. The next advise is to use the more complicated registration process that makes sure the email address given actually exists and is used by them, plus a bit of obscured text they have to read on the screen to stop automated scripts. You may have already done this I do not remember your registration process. I don't think I have any more advise on the topic, except to say if people are still using your forums it is worth keeping them running as it gives a nice warm fuzzy feeling to know that you are contributing to the net in general and your friends in particular. I think that is all I have to say, except that if you want any help with the forums in future please feel free to ask me to help, most of my experience is with PhpBB not Invision, but I can sort out hosting and things like that if you needed. Regards Alex |
