Hi all, just wondering if anyone is playing BF2. I'm gonna buy it on the way home this afternoon (assuming my aging home PC will handle it).

Let me know your nick and what servers you tend to play on.

Thanks,
Cam

OK, so I've had this game for a weekend and am FAR too involved in it already. This game is awesome! It finally adds the third dimension into FPS gaming. Where Counter-Strike and Wolf-ET provide three or four routes to get objectives achieved, and then create bottlnecks to get the action happening, BF2 is truly freeform.

As I have been playing ET a lot lately, take ET and add realistic vehicles (jet skis, quad bikes, APCs, tanks, jets...), also give grappling hooks and zip lines to make most rooftops accessible. Then throw in some tear gas, greater range of weaponry (modern warfare rather than WWII) and you start to understand.

There are many more skill classes as well.
Assault - GRUNT, assault rifle, body armour, kill kill kill!
Medic - OK rifle, med paks and defibrilator
Engineer - anti-vehicle mines and a spanner
Spec Ops - C4 inlove.gif but no armour
Support - MG and spare ammo
Anti-tank - RPG or equivalent
Sniper - full ghillie suit so you can't see me if I don't move ph34r.gif

Team play is vital in this, as nobody will survive on their own. You can set up squads, each with a leader who defines the current objective for the squad. There is also an overall commander who can advise squad leaders of preferred objectives, call artillery and use UAVs and satellite scans of vehicles.

There is also an inbuilt VOIP engine, meaning that there is no longer any need to run teamspeak/skype alongside your game.

Finally, there's an online ranking system. This tracks your progress in the game world and you get promotions and can unlock better weapons (more kills, fewer deaths) as you get better at the game in general. So far, let's just say I have been helping other people's statistics more than my own.

After about 7 hours online, I got my first promotion to "Private First Class". It's a long way to General Cam (my nick is AusCamSmith if you want to go to the stats page to find out more). But will be good fun trying. Let me know if you want to catch up online.

PS. Machine requirements are quite high, however my four year old home machine (750 RAM, P4 1.7, NV5700 128MB graphics) only just copes with it. Might have to buy more RAM, friends suggest 2GB is more reasonable. Also surprised that the Special Forces exp pack requires 3GB on Win Partition to install, just required housekeeping.
