Tomorrow, Dixons Stores Group International, the owner of Dixons, Currys, The Link, PCWorld and other European interests, will kill off the Dixons brand name on the High Street. All Dixons branches will be renamed Currys Digital. The stock sold will not change, the high street stores will still sell brown goods and the large out-of-town Currys will continue to sell white goods. The Dixons brand will be exclusive to the Internet with DSGi upscaling it's online presence to tackle the likes of Amazon. Double page colour spreads will appear in the daily papers to inform customers of this rebranding. The reason for this restructure is difficult to find through all the spin coming from Hemel Hempstead through to regional management so I can only assume that the recent press and TV activity from Currys over the peak season has raised it's profits and, just as importantly, it's profile amongst the public. The Dixons brand has been with us for nearly sixty years and I will be sad to see it go. However, my greatest concern is that the changeover to Currys will also involve a new uniform. Black trousers and a yellow shirt now mean I run the risk of going to work every day looking like a badly-eaten choc ice.

Surely selling brown goods in a yellow shirt will lead to unsightly stains. If you need more brown goods, we've plenty here in Norfolk, although some is more greenish brown.

If your goods are brown, that's just peanut butter

So what's happened with all this then - as of last Saturday (last time I saw a Dixons) they were still the same branding & colour scheme! Has there been a climb-down or is it a staged thing?
Anyway - kinda related: An eye tracking study of the (awful IMHO) dixons.co.uk homepage and one of the equally bad currys.co.uk page. -------------------- "We are number one, all others are number two or lower!" - The Sphinx, Mystery Men
