Hi all, just wondering if anyone is playing BF2. I'm gonna buy it on the way home this afternoon (assuming my aging home PC will handle it).
Let me know your nick and what servers you tend to play on. Thanks, Cam -------------------- |

OK, so I've had this game for a weekend and am FAR too involved in it already. This game is awesome! It finally adds the third dimension into FPS gaming. Where Counter-Strike and Wolf-ET provide three or four routes to get objectives achieved, and then create bottlnecks to get the action happening, BF2 is truly freeform.
As I have been playing ET a lot lately, take ET and add realistic vehicles (jet skis, quad bikes, APCs, tanks, jets...), also give grappling hooks and zip lines to make most rooftops accessible. Then throw in some tear gas, greater range of weaponry (modern warfare rather than WWII) and you start to understand. There are many more skill classes as well. Assault - GRUNT, assault rifle, body armour, kill kill kill! Medic - OK rifle, med paks and defibrilator Engineer - anti-vehicle mines and a spanner Spec Ops - C4 but no armour Support - MG and spare ammo Anti-tank - RPG or equivalent Sniper - full ghillie suit so you can't see me if I don't move Team play is vital in this, as nobody will survive on their own. You can set up squads, each with a leader who defines the current objective for the squad. There is also an overall commander who can advise squad leaders of preferred objectives, call artillery and use UAVs and satellite scans of vehicles. There is also an inbuilt VOIP engine, meaning that there is no longer any need to run teamspeak/skype alongside your game. Finally, there's an online ranking system. This tracks your progress in the game world and you get promotions and can unlock better weapons (more kills, fewer deaths) as you get better at the game in general. So far, let's just say I have been helping other people's statistics more than my own. After about 7 hours online, I got my first promotion to "Private First Class". It's a long way to General Cam (my nick is AusCamSmith if you want to go to the stats page to find out more). But will be good fun trying. Let me know if you want to catch up online. PS. Machine requirements are quite high, however my four year old home machine (750 RAM, P4 1.7, NV5700 128MB graphics) only just copes with it. Might have to buy more RAM, friends suggest 2GB is more reasonable. Also surprised that the Special Forces exp pack requires 3GB on Win Partition to install, just required housekeeping. Hey Cam, im into BF2 i think as much as you are, the ultamate freedom of map, terrain, veachles and weapons is brilliant, and the squad based VOip is great. favorite kit is Sniper and i have all three unlocked sniper rifles includeing the 50 cal 1 that can penatrate bullet proof glass anyway ive recently hit gunnery Sgt at a cool 8100 global points, ive still got a long while to go. what weapon unlocks have you got? ive got plenny, cheating a lil bit, if u get a friend to log u into the BF2 booster SF and play a round then u get like 5 free unlocks, legendary! anyway good to hear of someone who apreciates this quality game :)

I've had it for 2 weeks and luv it . But it keeps eating into WOW time and its a tough decision on which to play but there aren't enough ways of describing how awesome this game is. you can always find me either in the middle of an arty barrage or getting shot out of the sky(god there r so many different ways to die and i think i've tried most!)
BTW u r better off using TeamSpeak as VOIP is truly Shite in my opinion |

But Polo, Teamspeak is VOIP...
(I know what you mean and agree with you though) The in game VOIP leaves a bit to be desired but it is still usable. The other advantage of in-game that I don't think teamspeak does is allow a squad leader to talk either to his squad or with the other squad leaders and the commander using different buttons (default B and V). -------------------- |

LOL Polo, kinda like how u play paintball eh??
Everyone i know that has WoW is completely addicted to it, i mean like taking days off work to get some magic potion addicted, ive never tried it from fear of the same fate Yer i got TS but never get around to using it, do you connect to the TS servers with ip then ur like able 2 talk to everyone in the game?? what spec are ur PC's btw? i was kinda struggleing with my ATI 9550 but then i found out they have a 9600 core and can be overclocked well past their stock speed, so with a bit of ATI tool and some cooling adjustments (Chucking a spare case fan directly underneath GPU) i now have a much prettyer battlefield to look at and i can get blown to peices by a tank at a cool FPS rate Being the commander is also cool, nothing beats watching 20 of the the enamy prancing around attempting to capture a flag then clicking that artillery button and watching them get unexpectedly vapourised from the comfort of your satelite imageing system ....do i need to get out more?? anyway u can compair me if u like Liam_dude is my user, and if u got x-fire im hervtelesto This post has been edited by LiAm :p: May 11 2006, 10:00 PM -------------------- c>3 "need backup"

Problem is I have to relearn to fly helicopters as I have removed the lag between mouse and screen. -------------------- |

I've been playing BF2 for a little while, great fun. Get my arse shot off though.
Finally mastered the art of flying choppers with the cunning use of a gamepad :D Looking forward to getting to new BF though, looks awesome! |
